MOSQUITO FACTS

Since many mosquitoes breed in standing water, eliminating breeding grounds can be as simple as emptying water from containers around the home.
For example, by draining unused plastic pools or buckets; by clearing clogged gutters and repairing leaks around faucets; by regularly changing water in bird baths; and by filling in low areas in the yard where water collects.
Remove old tires and tree stumps.
Eliminating mosquito breeding areas can be an effective way to reduce mosquito populations around your home.

SOME TIPS FOR LIVING IN MOSQUITO COUNTRY

Mosquitos are most active at dawn, dusk, and early evening, these are peak biting times so avoid being outside at these times if you can.
When you go out wear loose fitting clothing, long-sleeved shirts and long pants, light colors are best.
When using insect repellents always read and follow directions printed on the product.
Keep your grass mowed and shrubbery trimmed to eliminate hiding places for the adult mosquitoes.

Female mosquitoes hunt their blood host by detecting organic substances such as carbon dioxide produced from the host, and through optical recognition. Mosquitoes prefer some people over others. The preferred victim's sweat simply smells better than others because of the proportions of the carbon dioxide, octenol and other compounds.
So if you know somebody that the mosquitoes prefer it's always a good idea to invite them to all of your outdoor activities.
